DOUG MENUEZ'S 'WILD PLACE' TO BE FIRST EXHIBIT AT NEW LOCATION OF THE CENTER FOR PHOTOGRAPHY WOODSTOCK

We are excited to announce that Doug Menuez's series, Wild Place, will be the opening exhibit for The Center for Photography at Woodstock’s (CPW) new location in Kingston, New York. The legendary and prestigious Center, founded by leading fine art photography Gallerist Howard Greenberg, that has resided in Woodstock since its inception in 1977, is moving to Kingston, New York this Spring. A distinct honor, Doug's Wild Place series will be the first exhibit in the new location beginning April 30th, 2022.

Kingston, a historically sleepy place, has become a new hot spot for New York City transplants. After moving back to Kingston after a decade away, Doug recognized significant changes and knew that there would be more to come. As a documentary photographer, he wanted to document the changing landscape of the town, and as someone invested in what connects us all together, he wanted to understand the community and reminded 'kingstonians' of their shared humanity as their culture was in transition. And from that, Wild Place was born.

It seems more than apropos that Doug's work will harken in a new era for the center, as someone who honors the history of the town and celebrates the points of view of its residents from all walks of life. Additionally, the exhibit is curated by guest curator Charles Guice; an accomplished curator, art advisor and writer. With his many accolades, Guice's interest lies in the diverse role of photography in disseminating ideas and engaging viewers in engaging dialogues.

"To me, small-town America, cities like Kingston interest me. I’ve documented the reality of everyday lives in small towns my whole career, always trying to highlight the core humanity. I want people to feel the surprise I have at the joy, creativity, and fascinating people found in this formerly beat-up old river town - it's changing fast."
